Your Veolia Benefits

Medicare Information

When an individual turns age 65, there is a 7 month window to sign up for Medicare; 3 months prior to the month you turn 65, the month of your birthday, and 3 months after the month you turn 65.  You are not required to sign up for Medicare if you are an active employee with coverage under Veolia’s medical plan.  You have 8 months after your active coverage ends to sign up for Medicare without incurring a penalty.

Enrolling in Medicare:

If you are enrolling in Medicare and you need to have this form completed by Veolia North America, please contact Veolia Benefits Department via email at us.vna.benefits.mailbox@veolia.com

Medicare While Actively Employed:

As an active employee enrolled in Veolia’s medical/RX plan, Veolia’s coverage is always your primary coverage; even if you are enrolled in Medicare.

If you are an active employee enrolled in Veolia’s medical/RX plan, it is your choice whether you enroll in or delay your Medicare election when first eligible for Medicare. If you enroll in Medicare Part A and/or Part B, Veolia will continue to be your primary coverage and Medicare will be your secondary coverage as long as you are an active Veolia employee. If your spouse is also enrolled in Veolia’s medical/RX plan while you are an active employee and your spouse elects Medicare Part A and/or Part B, Veolia’s coverage will be primary coverage for your spouse and Medicare will be secondary coverage as long as you are an active Veolia employee. You cannot enroll in a Medicare Part D plan (prescription drug coverage) while you are an active Veolia employee and have medical/prescription drug coverage through Veolia. You can view details on the coordination of benefits on page 26 of the SPD for the Veolia North America Health and Welfare Benefits Plan.

If you elect Medicare while an active Veolia employee and wish to drop your Veolia medical/RX coverage, this is considered a Qualified Life Event that allows you to drop your Veolia medical/RX coverage. You must notify the Veolia Benefits Center within 31 days of your Medicare coverage effective date in order to cancel your Veolia coverage.  If you do not notify the Veolia Benefits Center within 31 days, you will have to wait until Veolia’s next annual enrollment (held in the fall each year) to drop your Veolia coverage.

Medicare After Employment Ends:

Once your employment with Veolia ends, Medicare becomes your primary insurance. If you are enrolled in Veolia’s medical/RX plan when your employment ends, you will be offered continuation of Veolia’s coverage through COBRA. Even if you elect to continue your Veolia coverage through COBRA, Medicare will be your primary coverage and COBRA will be your secondary coverage. Regardless of whether or not you enroll for Medicare Part A and/or Part B coverage, if you are Medicare eligible, your COBRA coverage will assume you are enrolled in both Parts A and B and will only pay as secondary coverage.

You can decline continuation of medical coverage through COBRA but still elect to continue dental and vision coverage through COBRA.
